Gold Spot Price Explained

“Spot” is a reference price for gold in wholesale markets. It is not a promise that a consumer can buy a retail coin or bar at that exact price.

Why retail price differs

Fabrication, minting, distribution, dealer margin, product scarcity and transaction size can all affect the premium above a spot reference.

Why resale price differs too

A dealer's bid to buy metal from you can be below the price at which that dealer sells the same product. The gap between purchase and resale pricing is part of the round-trip cost.
