Gold IRA vs 401(k)

A 401(k) is an employer-sponsored retirement plan. A Gold IRA is typically a self-directed IRA arrangement used to hold qualifying precious metals. They differ in sponsorship, investment menu, fees and rollover access.

Can you move a 401(k) to a Gold IRA?

Sometimes, but eligibility depends on the plan and distribution rules. Start with your current plan administrator. If an eligible distribution is available, a direct rollover can move funds to an IRA without taxes being withheld from the transfer amount.

Do not move money just to access one asset

Compare the 401(k)'s investment options, costs, creditor protections, loan features where relevant and administrative simplicity with the self-directed IRA's added asset flexibility and fees.
